Birmingham Family Home Transformation

On the outskirts of Birmingham stands this beautiful 1920s arts and crafts property owned by the McCollums.

Since purchasing the house in 2015, the McCollums have undertaken a major transformation of the rear of the property. Due to its listed status and in keeping with the architecture of neighbouring properties, they could not demolish the whole house and completely rebuild it, despite its poor condition. Instead, the front of the property had to remain the same, retaining its arts and crafts style.

Mrs McCollum explains "Quite often, the back of a house does not look as nice as the front. We wanted to build a home that is beautiful all round and lets in a lot of sunlight."

With this in mind, Simon James, a well-established architect in the area drew up plans for the house. Having grown up in the area, Simon is renowned for his work on properties of this style and for his meticulous attention to detail. "We really liked the designs Simon drew up. He has used Mumford & Wood products before so we trusted his judgment and decided to move forward with all his plans."

In order to maximise both style and sunlight, a triple set of arched French doors from Mumford & Wood were selected for the dining room, looking out onto the garden. French doors were also installed in the master bedroom as well as leaded French doors in the music room. A double set of Bi-fold doors were also installed in the kitchen.

"The doors work perfectly, look lovely and let in a lot of sunshine. We are very happy with Mumford & Wood, and highly recommend them."
