Bespoke Development

A former paddock in the village of Cheveley, Cambridgeshire just four miles from Newmarket, has now been developed into a range of new, sympathetically designed homes, with Mumford & Wood’s windows and doors selected for the development. The Paddocks boasts a mixture of architectural styles, using brickwork, render and wood finishes to give the development a bespoke, unique appearance, in keeping with its picturesque setting.

The Design Partnership (ELY) Ltd is a multi-disciplinary architectural practice operating across East Anglia and was chosen for this project. With the development being close to Newmarket, and with equestrian sports having such a large legacy in the local area, Lead Architect, Tony Welland comments "There were many objections to overcome in our planning application due to a perceived loss of horse racing land, which is very protected in the area." Mr Welland then goes on to comment "In our application, we showed the quality of our design and materials to be used with natural slate and tiles together with windows and doors from Mumford & Wood."

Lightdoor, the developers of the site, had a desire to provide affordable housing for local people. As such, six of the homes on the Paddock development are available for either rent or shared ownership through the Cambridge Housing Association, with the rest available for private purchase. "These have all been very well received by the new residents" Mr Welland comments.

The Design Partnership has a long-standing working relationship with Mumford & Wood, spanning the last 2 decades. Mr Welland comments "We have been using Mumford & Wood for at least the last 20 years. We know the quality of the finished product very well and were keen to use them again for the Paddocks."

All of the houses feature a diverse range of Mumford & Wood’s windows and doors, including entrance doors, sash windows, casement windows and bi-fold doors. Due to the range of properties on the development, all have been given a unique finish to suit the individual architecture of each property.

"The Design Partnership is extremely grateful to our client, Lightdoor for going the extra mile to keep the quality of the external appearance, rather than considering only cost and profit."

The development at the Paddocks will grow in the coming years, with planning approval recently secured for a second phase. "We are extremely proud of the completed project and look forward to specifying Mumford & Wood for the next 10 new homes."
