Beautiful timber Conservation™ box sash windows by Mumford & Wood have been specified in the complete internal and external refurbishment of a Regency period property in fashionable Pimlico Village, City of Westminster, to an eclectic, 10-bedroom boutique hotel.

At the heart of the area is a disciplined grid of white stucco residential terraces laid down by planner Thomas Cubitt who in 1825 was contracted by Lord Grosvenor to develop the location now protected as the Pimlico Conservation area. The architecture of the period is known for its grand squares and impressive style.

Mumford & Wood Conservation™ double glazed box sash windows, finished in white, have replaced inefficient single glazed sash windows of a much simpler design. They provide superb thermal efficiency whilst perfectly reproducing the period style. Windows and entrance doors at street level have also been replaced and finished using Mumford & Wood’s colour matching service.

“The Conservation™ box sash windows specified here are complimented externally with attractive fine architectural detail and stonework. The whole project looks beautiful but I am particularly pleased with the ground floor treatment where sash windows and doors were coupled with panelling to recreate the original features of the old Clarendon Public House,” says Tom Barfield, sales director, Mumford & Wood. “Residents of this hotel will benefit from 21st Century standards of thermal comfort and being situated on a busy London road the natural acoustic qualities of timber will ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum.”

Doors and windows in the Conservation™ range form a collection of thermally efficient products with superior aesthetics. A combination of modern manufacturing technology combined with authentic period detailing has earned the brand award-winning status. Conservation™ products made in accordance with the British Woodworking Federation’s third-party Timber Window Accreditation Scheme achieve exceptional U-values that far exceed the requirements of current Part L Building Regulations’ and are BRE A+ rated.

All products are internally glazed for added security and the new colour match and dual colour paint, or stain, facility is a popular option. The company uses only high quality, spray-applied, micro-porous finishes that provide durable, low maintenance protection. Manufactured from the finest engineered, clear grade and sustainably sourced timber, Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ windows and doors have an expected life of between 55-65 years. They also carry the BSI Kitemark, are Energy Saving Trust listed, and many products carry Secured by Design accreditation

Today the Artist Residence London is part of the fun and friendly sixtyfourdegrees chain which is already well established with successful businesses in Brighton and Penzance. Until its recent refurbishment the building had been derelict for several years since trading as the popular Clarendon Public House and before that the Country Pub in London.
