Conversion of former Sunday school

Conversion of former Sunday school

Tucked away in the depths of the Somerset countryside, this former Sunday school has been converted for residential use by the Walker family.

Believed to be 100 years old, the building is on the grounds of a grand, Listed home and as such, is also protected with a Grade II listing. Alongside the former Sunday school, there is also a former workshop, garage and stable block which have also now been converted and restored by the family.

“We saw the opportunity to convert the buildings into a residential space for our family, which we now occasionally let out for holiday guests as well” Mr Walker comments.

With the buildings all protected with a Listed status, an architect was brought on board by the family to assist with planning and submitting the works, and gaining approval from the local conservation authority.

“Both ourselves and the architect researched potential suppliers for our new windows and doors, which was how we initially discovered Mumford & Wood. We were really impressed with what we saw, and thankfully, everyone came to the same conclusion that the Mumford & Wood products would be most suitable for our project” Mr Walker explains.

“The process set out by the conservation authority was very strict, and there were numerous rules we had to follow to ensure our works would be in keeping with, and preserving, both this structure and the main house on the grounds. But we were delighted when we gained approval for our new windows and doors from Mumford & Wood”.

Putty glazed, sympathetically designed flush casement windows and entrance doors in a stylish Green finish were specified for the property. As part of the building was the old stable block, the new doors have been designed with this in mind, with the panels and glass styled to blend in seamlessly with the architecture of the building.

“We were inspired by the colour from looking around at local properties who also have a similar colour scheme for their windows and doors. It seemed the most appropriate colour to go for, to ensure our property fitted in and enhanced the local area.”

“We have been really impressed with Mumford & Wood and love the helpful, customer focussed approach that they adopted the entire way through the process” Mr Walker concludes.
