Part B1 Building Regulations, effective from 20.1.2000
2.7 - All habitable rooms in the upper storey(s) of a house served by one staircase should be provided with a window or external door which complies with paragraph 2.11.

2.11 - The window should have an unobstructed openable area that is at least 0.33m² and at least 450mm wide and 450mm high. The bottom of the openable area must not be more than 1100mm above the floor. To comply with regulations the minimum effective opening is 450mm x 750mm in either direction.

Part L


This section covers the technical guidance that supports Part L of schedule 1 of the Building Regulations, with the requirements with respect to Conservation of fuel and power.

Approved Document  L1A: Conservation of fuel and power in new dwellings

Approved Document L2A Conservation of fuel and power in new buildings other than dwellings


MOBILITY

Part M2 Building Regulations requires that all new dwellings should have at least one accessible entrance.

To achieve adequate access any such door frame should be specified with a low aluminium threshold

The frame width must achieve a minimum clear opening of 800mm for a new build and 775mm for refurbishment between open - we would recommend an overall frame size of 985mm with a 68mm frame.

Acoustic Performance

With noise pollution on the increase many customers are looking for window solutions that reduce the levels of unwanted sound entering their property. As standard all of our products are fitted with acoustic weather seals to reduce outside noise. There is also the option to upgrade the glass specification on all of our to include Laminated Sound Control Acoustic glass to further improve the acoustic performance.

With independent UKAS testing by Sound Research Laboratories Ltd our products achieved a rating in accordance with BSEN ISO 717-1:1997 of:-

Spring Sash : RW (C;Ctr) = 36 (-2;-5)dB
Box Sash : RW (C;Ctr) = 36 (-1;-4)dB
Casement : RW (C;Ctr) = 40 (-2;-6)dB
