Leading developer converts former hospital with Mumford & Wood

A leading volume housing developer completed the renovation of a former workhouse and infirmary on the site of the old Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire using Mumford & Wood’s ConservationTM products throughout.

The conversion to 270 dwellings across a collection of buildings, which includes the Grade II listed Rutherford House, required over 400 bespoke windows and doors including heavy duty pre-tensioned spiral spring-balanced sashes, casement windows, French doorsets and entrance doors, as well as hundreds of bespoke semi-circular headed frames.

The site was estimated and measured by Mumford & Wood’s technicians and numerous CAD drawings were prepared for submission to the East Herts Council’s development control committee.  The original application was turned down but a further submission with a reduction in the total number of dwellings gained approval.

A number of optional extras were specified by the developer which included the elegant 16mm fine lamb’s tongue glazing bar option and special acoustic glass for sound reduction.  ConservationTM double glazed products by Mumford & Wood are Part L Building Regulations compliant.  All products were supplied fully finished with three coats of microporous white paint as standard.
