Creating Edwardian elegance with Mumford & Wood fenestration
Mumford & Wood have supplied sash windows and French doorsets from the Conservation™ range for the eight-year renovation project of a late Victorian/early Edwardian style villa situated in the beautiful, unspoilt Regency town of Sidmouth, Devon. This popular tourist location has managed to preserve its old world charm without the intrusion of the modern buildings which have spoilt the promenades and seafronts of so many traditional towns.
Many of Sidmouth’s buildings are now officially listed buildings in an established conservation area. The final phase of the renovation involved the addition of a substantial two-storey extension to the rear of the property.
The original single glazed sash windows to the existing property have been retained but the planning authority stipulated that doors and windows to the new extension must be double glazed to comply with Building Regulations and must match the original and traditional sightlines.
Mumford & Wood’s bespoke service provided the help and advice needed by the owners and their architect which satisfied the requirements of the local authority. Edwardian-style vertical spring balance sliding sash windows with ovolo moulded glazing bars fulfilled the precise specification. The substantial French door sets have slender 22mm ovolo moulded glazing bars which have been faithfully recreated and historically researched.
