Stylish fenestration for period re-build
An elegant, traditional-style rebuild has benefited from not one but two styles of fenestration systems manufactured by timber window specialists Mumford & Wood Ltd. Bespoke products from the Conservation™ and Contemporary™ ranges include traditional sliding sashes, casements, doors with Georgian glazing bars, special shape triangular windows and bi-fold doors.
The front façade of this substantial 100-year old property is the only part of the original building that remains today. Located in a picturesque town in the Home Counties, where old and modern architecture sit comfortably together, the owners felt it important to retain the traditional appearance of the property. A contemporary, open-plan and spacious interior overcomes the warren of small rooms that once provided difficult access and dark spaces.
The developer, who specialises in rebuilds and renovation projects, advised the owners to take the roof off, keep the original front wall and gut the rest of the property. The project took 18 months to complete.
A Buckinghamshire-based prestigious local developer delivered this design and build project and recommended Mumford & Wood windows and doors, their brand of choice for quality and technical support. “A huge part of our work is in refurbishment so it is essential to have a bespoke service that is versatile enough to cope with unique projects,” says a Company spokesperson. Mumford & Wood redrew the front façade enlarging the window openings to accommodate sliding sash windows which have greatly influenced the dramatic new facelift.
“Our home is bright and open with lots of natural light which we love, and the folding sliding doors to the games room are just fantastic,” says owner and project manager, Mrs Conway.
