Bespoke oak fenestration for new period re-build

High performance, timber windows and doors by Mumford & Wood were specified for a modern, traditional-style private property in a picturesque market town in the Home Counties of England.

Retaining all but the front and side exterior walls, the back elevation of the property has been completely demolished, the entire interior gutted, the floor area increased to 700m² and a reconfiguration of internal space, including a dramatic landing and staircase, once at the rear of the property, has made this 16-month rebuild a complex project.

The design brief was to create a ‘look’ that would enhance the Tudor-style design of this new home and the use of oak frames, complemented with black aluminium glazing beads and square leaded glass, has contributed hugely to the overall vision.

The bespoke oak fenestration system, which includes bays in both gables, has top swing and side swing casements; external doors, some with leaded glass, others clear glazed, and the dramatic staircase fixed-panel portrait window, are all BSI energy rated ‘A – C’, depending on specification, and provide the highest levels of thermal performance.  They carry a BSI Kitemark and are Energy Saving Trust rated, providing premium levels of security with Secured by Design accreditation, and offer superior acoustic benefits.

“Every room has great proportions and dramatic windows that create the wow factor our specialist developer promised they would,” says self-build homeowner.
