Essex-based Mumford & Wood, the award winning manufacturer of inspirational timber windows and doors, are proud to announce their 60th anniversary this month. The company was founded by Derek Mumford and Denis Wood in June 1954 from small premises in Brentwood, Essex.
The company excels in designing and manufacturing bespoke, thermally efficient, timber fenestration systems for period renovation and restoration projects and for traditional and contemporary-style new build properties. All products are manufactured to the exceptionally high standards of the British Woodworking Federation’s Timber Window Accreditation Scheme that set an industry benchmark. They are Energy Saving Trust listed and carry the BSI Kitemark and Window Energy Ratings. The company manufactures from sustainably sourced engineered timber in their state-of-the-art facilities in Tiptree, Essex.
Over 100 staff celebrated at the company’s hog roast birthday event and everyone was presented with a commemorative gift.
“We could not have reached this significant milestone in our trading history without the great work of our founders,” says Mike Harris, managing director, Mumford & Wood. “Today, together with our skilled and loyal staff, we have built a brand, culture and reputation for high quality, high performance and much admired timber windows and doors. As a strong brand we have faced the challenges in the construction market over recent years and are better positioned to meet the upturn in the industry.
“In addition, natural timber windows and doors have made a substantial resurgence in popularity over PVC-u in recent years and demand continues to rise. As the natural material of choice for homeowners timber windows look better for longer, offer a 65+year life cycle and are ‘greener’ which is better for us and better for the planet.”
The company was acquired in October 2006 by The Performance Timber Products Group headed by CEO Roy Wakeman OBE.
