Mumford & Wood Exhibit at Ecobuild 2010
*
Mumford & Wood displayed one of their most popular timber window designs on the Wood Window Alliance stand 2280, at Ecobuild 2010.

This double glazed, factory-finished, semi circular sliding sash window from the Conservation™ range is based on historically researched moulded sections that achieve elegant, traditional profiles and sightlines that are almost indistinguishable from originals. The company’s modern manufacturing methods ensure high performance with BFRC energy ratings from A – C, dependent on specification. This design is available in a single glazed option for sensitive renovation projects.

Mumford & Wood use only PEFC or FSC sustainably sourced, premium grade larch which grows slowly and typically produces timber that has tight growth rings and is darker in colour than sap wood. Timber is taken from the heart of the tree where the real strength lies. The heart is scanned for defects early in the process identifying resin pockets and knots which are cut out. The clear parts are finger jointed and glued in six metre lengths to create top quality, clear grade timber.

“These timber components are purchased direct from European suppliers, and we specify the grain direction in each and every component size,” says Dave Snowling, Managing Director, Mumford & Wood. “This further improves stability and enhances the visual appearance and performance of the water-based paint or stain finishes we use.”

Mumford & Wood is a founder member of the Wood Window Alliance. “Our design and manufacturing policies are in direct relationship to those of WWA,” says Dave Snowling. “Mindful of marketing a sustainable, low carbon and energy efficient product, we believe in responsible sourcing of the raw material we consume in our manufacturing while creating the best fenestration designs, finishes and service life in the industry. Heavy investment in state of the art plant and equipment allows us to remain competitive and keep lead times for our bespoke products to a minimum.”

The company has ISO 14001 certification which acknowledges and assesses the environmental impact of every aspect of the manufacturing process from harvest of the raw material, to manufacture, treatment of waste and delivery to market.
