Long Service Awards at Mumford & Wood

Mumford & Wood Limited, the Tiptree in Essex based manufacturer of premium timber windows and doors, celebrated not one but two 20-year’s Long Service Awards this month.

Employees Alan Battes and Martin Ketley, both from Brentwood, Essex started their time with the company when it was based in Ongar under the direction of founder members, Derek Mumford and Dennis Wood.
Alan Battes, known as ‘Speedy’ amongst his colleagues, is a skilled production worker on frame assembly on Mumford & Wood’s bespoke window manufacturing line. Whilst the company has changed significantly in its 53 years of manufacturing, Alan can easily remember the earlier days. He comments: “We were a small team, just seven or eight of us, and now there’s over 70 production workers as well as all the management and sales teams. The product has just got better and better and the company goes from strength to strength.”
Martin Ketley also remembers how thing’s have changed: “And it’s all for the good”, he says, “and going in the right direction.” Martin recalls being persuaded to go for his interview at Mumford & Wood for a part time position. “It was a far cry from my agricultural background and confess I needed some encouragement when I was offered the job, but it’s 20 years on – and I’m still here!” Martin started as a general labourer and is now multi skilled having run the paint shop and now the despatch department during his service with the company.
Production Director, David Snowling, presented both employees with cheques and a celebratory luncheon for the production team.
Mumford & Wood is a member company of The Performance Windows Group.
