OVER 500 WINDOWS RESTORES LAWTON HALL

Recent investment in specialist tooling enables Mumford & Wood to offer bespoke single glazed sash windows from their Historic Box Sash range satisfying the requirement for a single glazed option in sensitive historic projects. Although production in the Conservation range is geared to producing factory finished double glazed windows, there is still a requirement for single glazing in some planning applications.

Premium quality timber sash windows and doors from specialist manufacturer, Mumford & Wood, were specified by a major national developer in the sensitive restoration of Lawton Hall in Cheshire.
Restoration of the 17th century grade II building near Alsager is now complete following a schedule of sensitive redevelopment which began early this decade. The Hall had been a family home for centuries and more latterly a private school. The building was abandoned during the 1990’s and fell victim to vandalism and fire.
Now home to a gated, private residential community, Lawton Hall has nine fine apartments and some 30 new and luxurious detached houses and mews residences situated throughout the estate.
Demolition of all but the front façade was essential as the walls were highly dangerous. Many important and ornate features of the Hall were saved in what is believed to have been a hiding place for Charles II in the 1600’s during the English Civil War.
Mumford & Wood were able to offer products suitable for the sensitive restoration of Lawton Hall and for the new build properties within the grounds. The single glazed ‘Historic Box sash’ range were used for the hall, while the double glazed ‘Conservation range’ met the building regulation requirements for the new build. The Conservation range offered double glazing and high performance features whilst retaining the appearance and elegant sight lines of the original sashes and doors. Around 500 period windows and doors were produced over a 14 month delivery schedule for the Lawton Hall project.
