Conservation™ timber windows and doorsets, by specialist manufacturer Mumford & Wood, have been specified for several of the traditional-style annex properties of the 300 year old Morden College in the London Borough of Greenwich.
The original building, to a design attributed to Sir Christopher Wren in 1695 was founded by Philanthropist Sir John Morden as a home for impoverished merchants and was intended to house 40 single or widowed gentlemen. It has however expanded several times since then. The spacious brick structure, with stone coins and cornices, forms a quadrangle which is surrounded by piazzas and manicured formal gardens. The impressive chapel carries the arms of Sir John and Lady Morden and the College’s many benefactors.>
Conservation™ sash windows and doorsets are being used extensively in the refurbishment of the 20th century annexed properties which provide residential care for the elderly. The College, a registered charity, also manages other properties in Blackheath which have been refurbished with high performance energy rated timber windows by Mumford & Wood.
David Boyne, Property Manager, Morden College says: “The continuous process of upgrading our properties at Blackheath is a challenge we enjoy. Working with suppliers like Mumford & Wood makes it easier as we have every confidence in their design ability to meet our aesthetic aims, and collectively we are responsible for specifying products that will reduce carbon and energy emissions while simultaneously improving the comfort of our residents.”
Conservation™ sash windows achieve Window Energy Ratings of C – A, depending on specification, and surpass the requirements of Part L Building Regulations 2013.
“We rely on the skills of Mumford & Wood to provide a perfect match with the existing window designs, while providing a high quality factory finished window that will give good service for many years,” continues Mr Boyne.
Mumford & Wood use premium quality, clear grade laminated larch for strength and stability. Factory finished windows and doorsets are double glazed and carry BSI Kitemark and Energy Saving Trust approvals.
